I've taken up crochet. Not that I don't have enough other crafts to do (my yarn stash has increased with sock yarn now) but I was surfing through some blogs recently and hit on one that was specifically crochet related. I loved some of the things I was seeing and wanted to have a go at them myself.
Interestingly, I'm not finding it easy. It's totally different to knitting, the one needle being the obvious difference, and I can't quite grasp the way that the patterns are written out.
All is not lost though as I've contacted someone locally who is willing to teach me. Chris has been crocheting for 40 years so I'll be making full use of her experience. I have my first lesson on Monday and I'm really excited about it.
I've crocheted a few granny squares and hope to make my first baby blanket from them. I'm a little slow - it takes me 30 minutes to make one 6 inch square - but there is that instant feeling of success once the square is finished. I'm all for instant gratification these days!
Kevin thinks it takes much longer to crochet, but we both wish you much success and cannot wait to see pictures!
Good luck on your crochet! Check out the Crochet Liberation Front Blog Ring for FABULOUS crochet inspiration!
Crochet can grow much faster than knitting, once you've got the technique. Good luck!
Good on you, sincerely! I wish I had the talent to be able to attempt things like that. Plus it's something physical you can see that you've made with your own hands. Good on you!

Good for you, although I always found as a Crocheter, that I liked the looks of knitted items better and I hated piecing things together, seems no matter how well you do it, over the years it comes apart. Maybe thats true with knitted items too - dunno as I have only knit whole items - sweaters and socks and such....
See, and with it was knitting I couldn't get.
I was, before old age and bad eyesight took over, a very big fan of crocheting (sp?) doilies.
Used to have a ton of them around. Then I realized that my house looked like my grandma's.

Glad you're finding happiness in crochet! Can't wait to see your blanket! :)
